A Superior Medical Solution for Tear Duct Blockage
History of Jones Tube
Lester T. Jones Tear Duct Tubes, or simply Jones Tubes, are instruments designed to drain tears toward the nose when an individual’s tear ducts fail to do so. They were first created by Lester T. Jones, MD. He worked with Gunther Weiss Scientific Glassblowing, a company focusing on scientific glass blowing, in manufacturing these products.
Dr. Jones’s journey to success was not a smooth sailing one. He experienced many traumatic things in life and was doubted and criticized by his colleagues. However, these circumstances did not stop him from excelling in his field and helping many patients. His proficiency in ophthalmology was noted by various organizations that recognized him and gave awards in his honor. He created the first Jones Tubes.
Wet Eye
Excessive and abnormal tearing of the eye or wet eye occurs when the ducts responsible for allowing tears to drain become clogged. This is caused by the blockage of the tear drains in the nose or eyelid or on the opening on the eyelid margin.
Designing a Solution
Dr. Lester T. Jones and Gunther Weiss collaborated in 1963 to create a solution that addresses tear duct problems. We developed highly specialized glass tubes, which are made to be inserted into the nasolacrimal duct. Once the body forms scar tissues around the tubes, permanent artificial tear ducts are formed.
